About the artist

ALIREZA JAHROMI

Alireza Jahromi (b. 1984, Tehran) is an Iranian visual artist working primarily in painting and drawing. He received a BA in Painting from Azad University in 2011 and an MA in Painting from the University of Tehran in 2013. He lives and works in Amsterdam and spends part of each year in New York.

Jahromi approaches painting as a fluid, spirit-like world in which forms are never entirely fixed or separate. They pass through one another, become transparent and combine to give rise to new forms. Colour and layered marks allow different presences to occupy the same space, making the boundaries between them permeable. Rather than settling into a single, definitive image, his compositions remain open to continual discovery.

This understanding connects his varied subjects and bodies of work, including Unfinished Fantasies, Reverberation, Vagrant in Time and Oriental Warmth. His practice spans painting, drawing, mixed media and printmaking, exploring how an image can hold multiple forms and possibilities at once. Whether a form appears recognisable or elusive, it remains part of a larger world in transformation. His works invite prolonged and repeated looking: a shape that initially recedes may later come forward, while familiar passages reveal unexpected relationships. Viewing becomes an ongoing encounter in which new images can continue to emerge over time.
